CNA Real Talk: Let’s Talk About Handwashing

Let’s talk about something simple… but so important….handwashing.

Your hands are the number one way germs travel from place to place.
That’s why hand hygiene is the most important thing you can do to stop the spread of infection.

And I’m not talking about a quick rinse and go.

I’m talking about soap and water, lathering for at least 20 seconds, getting in between those fingers, under those nails, all of it.
Hand sanitizer? Yes, it has its place, but it does not replace proper handwashing, especially when hands are visibly soiled.

Let me be real with you…

If you’re not practicing good hand hygiene, you are putting your patients/residents at risk. Period.

And please…
don’t be that CNA walking from room to room with the same gloves on.

Gloves are not magic. They don’t replace hand hygiene.
You still need to wash your hands before and after every single patient/resident contact.

Because at the end of the day, this is about safety. This is about protecting those who depend on you.

Clean hands save lives. It’s that simple.
